Chapter 1, Page 2
Journey Beyond Reason
Let’s start at the beginning

On Christmas night 1996, the Ramseys returned home from their friends, Fleet & Priscilla White's home, dropping off last minute Christmas gifts to some friends along the way. According to John and Patsy, when they tucked JonBenet into bed that night, it would be the last time they were to see her alive.

911 records a call came into their office at 5:52 on December 26, 1996 with the report of a kidnapping. The mother said there was a note - a ransom note. The worst nightmare for any parent had occurred. According to the Ramseys sometime during the night, someone had entered their home and abducted their child from her own bed. That story was soon to be challenged.

From the day the news broke until the day of this writing this has been an unsolved case. There are two greatly divided camps who feel they have the answer. These camps being "The Intruder Camp" and "The Parents Were Involved Camp".

A number of books have been written. Two made-for-TV movies were produced. Newspapers and tabloids have been assured sales with the mere mention of JonBenet Ramsey.

News shows have boosted their ratings vying for exclusive interviews with insiders and the promise of new information. Insiders sometime simply interjected themselves into the case. JonBenet became a marketable commodity.

Web sites were formed where posters could tout their favorite theory.

Careers have been ruined, reputations have been ruined, people have been jailed.

People, except killer, caught up in the case
By Charlie Brennan Denver Rocky Mountain News Staff Writer
The discovery of JonBenet Ramsey's body in her parents' basement 21/2 years ago has led to no fewer than 10 arrests. None has been for the 6-year-old's death.

While the grand jury investigation into the killing is winding down, a still-growing string of peripheral players has been pulled under by the backwash.

Records and reputations have been tarnished by charges ranging from trespassing to attempted arson and racketeering.
